Evangelism is hard, but should it be? I’ve compiled a list of books with the hope that they will offer you insight, strategy, inspiration, instruction and encouragement as you work through the motions of evangelism.
There are different forms of books. They range from purely instructional to story form, and a little in between. Some of these books are staples and are extremely popular, while others you might not think as evangelistic in nature.
DISCLAIMER: I don’t endorse every theological implication or viewpoint(s) mentioned by the authors or books that I cover. However, you don’t have to agree with all of it to benefit from it. These books are in no particular order.
Chasing The Dragon (Jackie Pullinger)
Capturing a Town for Christ (Elmer Towns)
Mere Christianity (C.S. Lewis)
Changing the World Through Discipleship (Robert Herber)
A Practical Guide to Evangelism – Supernaturally (Chris Overstreet)

The Book that Transforms Nations (Loren Cunningham)
The Radical Reformission (Mark Driscoll)
Evangelism Explosion (Dr. D. James Kennedy)
One woman’s struggle against the darkness of Hong Kong’s drug dens. This book follows the testimony and life story of Jackie Pullinger as she becomes a missionary in the infamous Walled City, in Hong Kong during the late 1960’s and throughout the 70’s.
Therefore, Go & Make Disciples of All Nations….
This book offers Vision, Practical Steps, and Tools for every believer to fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission.
Although Discipleship and Evangelism are not ‘directly’ connected; modeling an evangelistic lifestyle through life-long discipleship will bring about fruitful repercussions. Robert Herber is the author of the book and lead pastor at All Peoples Church in San Diego, California.
The ministry that we will never be able to do in Heaven — to share our faith with non-christians. This book has questions at the end of each chapter to stretch your faith and have you ponder your thoughts about evangelism.
An amazing true story of helping the lost in their moments of need, The Cross and the Switchblade is a great read to refocus our hearts on the lost.
A book about missions. I can’t think of another way to express the urgency of evangelism than by those who have lived their whole lives dedicated to it.
Loren Cunningham expresses the call to fulfill the Great Commission with his examples of the power the Bible and Holy Spirit has to change nations across the world. He is also the founder of Youth With A Mission.
The first ministry we have is to the Lord. Everything else flows out from that. In the book, The Radical Reformission, author Mark Driscoll frankly unpacks what it means to love God first in practical terms.
